Amelanchier canadensis (Serviceberry)

 

Medium to large-sized suckering shrub with tall erect stems, oblong leaves wooly on both sides. Grows well in moist situations. Leaves assume soft red or yellow tints in autumn. A profusion of white star-shaped flowers is borne in erect or curved racemes in April. They are followed by round, black, sweet-tasting berries which ripen in June. They thrive in a sunny or partially shaded position.
Height 6m (20ft), Spread 3m (10ft), 10-20 years to maturity.
