A vigorous, clump-forming, rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial with upright, strap-like, grey-green leaves and, in late spring and early summer, erect stems bearing large, ruffled flowers with dark purple standards and black-flushed, dark purple falls.
Height 75cm (2.5ft), Spread 50cm (1.5ft), 2-5 years to maturity.
