A large evergreen shrub or small tree of columnar habit with oval, shiny, variegated, green leaves that have wavy margins and a central yellow-green blotch which is conspicuous on young leaves, but gradually fades as the leaves get older. Small fragrant black-red flowers in late spring and early summer, followed by black capsules.
